connections to the other characters:
Freddy Riley
The Lawyer met the factory owner very early when he was seventeen years old, and Leo Beck and Martha Beck invite Freddy to attend Lisa's first birthday party on December 21st, 1877. He sent a love letter to Martha Beck despite knowing she was married. Persuading the factory manager to buy the military factory and seducing Martha indicates that he is deep-minded, clever, and good at disguising himself. Eventually he and Martha ran away with Leo's money, and caused Lisa to be sent to an orphanage when her father became an alcoholic (and later, killed himself attempting to burn down his factory and was reincarnated as the Hell Ember) During the game he frequently fights with Kreacher Pierson, to which Emma (formerly Lisa), tries to break apart and keep from fighting. At one point during the game, Freddy accidentally touches belladonna leaves and Emma informs him of what they are, as well as ending up providing an alibi for him the next day when someone tries to poison everyone with them inside a pie. However, she doesn't actually like him that much and tries to keep Freddy away from Emily, though perhaps unsuccessfully as from the Doctor's entries we find out that Freddy causes Emily to be captured by the Hell Ember.
Kreacher Pierson
When the church wanted to open an orphanage on White Sand Street, The Thief generously handed over his business and land to the church. The compensation was significant. He supported the orphanage where Lisa Beck was admitted to. 14 children, including Lisa (The Gardener), had psychological problems due to the orphanage. They were soon transported to a children's hospital (where Lydia Jones/Emily Dyer had worked, as it turns out). He fell in love with Lisa, who rejected him. In his anger, he struck her, despite the fact that she had been kind enough to try to keep Freddy from fighting with him, as well as getting Emily to take a look at his injuries when he fell off the balcony at one point. Eventually he starts resorting to hiding in Emma's scarecrow to get her to talk to and hug him, which proves to be his downfall when Emma ends up stuffing the scarecrow into a trunk and then later setting it on fire to hopefully draw Emily's attention when she realizes that her "angel" is danger, killing Kreacher in the process.
Emily Dyer/Lydia Jones
Lydia Jones opens "The Lydia Jones Clinic", but it loses money. Lydia goes against her methods in an effort to raise money; she begins to provide private medical services for female patients, including performing electroshock therapy on Lisa Beck at a mental hospital several children were sent to. But one day, a woman, Martha Remington, was found dead on the operating table. The doctor had left her there after performing an illegal surgery, and it's implied that she disposed of the body via having dogs deal with it. Lydia Jones changes her name to Emily Dyer. At the manor, Emily Dyer meets Emma Woods and Kreacher Pierson. She dislikes Mr. Pierson, and hopes that Emma stays away from him. She recalls operating on Emma in the clinic years prior, whose name had been Lisa Beck at the time. Emma adores Emily (despite her being responsible for the death of her mother) and Emily in turn feels a very strong protective love over her, as shown by the quote from the game’s map “White Sand Street Asylum”: “Lydia will stand by Lisa forever and ever.” They spend time bonding in the garden, though Emily shows great concern for Emma in regards to Emma talking about her scarecrow apparently talks to her and even hugs her, and tries to keep a close eye on her. Unfortunately, she is tricked by the Lawyer (who wants revenge for the death of Martha) into getting captured by the Hell Ember during the game so it's unknown if she's dead or alive.
Hell Ember/Leo Beck
The factory manager was married on March 14, 1874. Three years later, his daughter was born. He operated a small textile factory and was flexible in handiwork. He also made small toys for his daughter. Though he didn't have a big career, he loved his family. The factory owner suffered a career issue, and many years of friends and lawyers helped him. After taking the advice of his friend Freddy Riley, he bought a small gun factory that was severely in debt. Before Leo realized the poor conditions of the factory, his wife and Freddy Riley made off with all his possessions and disappeared. Drowning in debt, Leo Beck began to drink alcohol for a while, giving up his daughter Lisa to an orphanage to prepare himself for self-immolation in the factory. Though he took his life in a fire, it did not remove him from the world. He was reborn with resentment and wrote, "I will find you" in the factory. He had been a survivor, but because he refused to write in his diary, he was "punished" and reappeared as a hunter.
